This large, one-of-a-kind work is part of a series exploring a fascinating shape: the fifteenth pentagon to “tile the plane.” For decades, mathematicians believed that only 14 irregular pentagons could tessellate in order to fill a plane with no overlapping portions. In 2015, a team of mathematicians at the University of Washington, Bothell discovered the fifteenth pentagon to tile the plane. This artwork introduces random, organic facets to the symmetrical nature of the tessellating pattern, creating an illusion that feels simultaneously calming and a bit unpredictable.
This work is framed in a dark wood veneer frame with anti-glare, anti-UV acrylic glazing.
Artwork dimensions: 24”h x 36”w x 0.5”d

Since this is an oversize piece, I’m not sure if my website will calculate shipping costs accurately. I may need to adjust the shipping and handling charges and bill customer accordingly. For context, I expect shipping to NYC will be around $200, and shipping to LA will be around $150. (Local pickup in SF is free.)
